Workshop Overview

This hands-on workshop will introduce participants to the the digital generation and the classroom. Participants will learn how to find resources to engage the digital generation in classroom learning.

Objectives

In this workshop, you will:

1. Define the digital generation
2. Review digital tools they use
3. Evaluate possible classroom resources
4. Discuss classroom implications
5. Brainstorm activities for the classroom
6. Share a lesson possibility

ISTE Standards

This workshop will help teachers accomplish the following standards:

1. Technology Operations and Concepts - Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts. Teachers:
   B. demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.
2. Planning and Designing Learning Environments and Experiences - Teachers plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology. Teachers:
   B. apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environments and experiences.
   C. identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.
   D. plan for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities.
   E. plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment.
3. Teaching, Learning, and the Curriculum - Teachers implement curriculum plans, that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning. Teachers:
   A. facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards
   C. manage student learning activities in a technology-enhanced environment.
4. Assessment and Evaluation - Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies. Teachers:
   B. use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.
5. Productivity and Professional Practice - Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice. Teachers:
   B. continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning.
   C. apply technology to increase productivity.
   D. use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.

Pick and Adapt in Four Easy Steps

Step 1: Pick a Group to Work With	Decide if you would like to work with a group or on your own
Step 2: Pick a Subject/Lesson	Think of and choose a lesson you recently taught or will teach soon
Step 3: Pick a tool (either Web 2.0 or or physical technological tool)	Web 2.0: Photostory 3, EduGlogster, Wiki, Moodle, MovieMaker, Voki, VoiceThread; Physical Tool: Digital Camera, Flip Camera, Microphone
Step 4: Adapt a lesson by adding a technology component	Add either an extension for your GT students (or all) or an introduction. Remember when adapting a lesson it could as simple as having a voki explain the directions to students to engage them and then allowing them to create one of their own
